  1. In total there are 64 squares.

  2. 64 squares only, simple arithmetic of 8 x 8 as the others have said. The reason why the answer isn't 204 is because the board is flat, one dimensional, it has no height or depth to allow the building of a pyramid, as in the Wikipedia link.

  3. 8*8? the answeris in the question lol,

    8*8 = 64

    now wasnt that hard,

    there are the same amount of black squares as white squares too, isnt that amazing,

  4. 8 x 8=64 squares.

  5. There are 204 squares.  There are 64 squares of 1x1.  There are 49 squares of 2x2.  There are 36 squares of 3x3.  There are 25 squares of 4x4.  There are 16 squares of 5x5.  There are 9 squares of 6x6.  There are 4 squares of 7x7.  There is 1 square of 8x8.

    64 + 49 + 36 + 25 + 16 + 9 + 4 + 1 = 204

  6. Plug into the equation: x = n(n + 1)(2n + 1) / 6, where 'n' is the length of the board.

    In this case, n = 8:

    x = 8(8 + 1)(2(8) + 1) / 6

    x = 8(9)(16 + 1) / 6

    x = 8(9)(17) / 6

    x = 1224 / 6

    x = 204  <=== answer
