In Algebra, what exactly is 'the number line'?

The exact problem is "On the number line, graph the solution of y<2". How do I graph this, and on what kind of number line?

  1. a number line is simply a line with zero in the middle and negative numbers on one side and positive numbers on the other side

A number line is exactly what is says its a line with numbers on it  i would assume in your case  with numbers 1 through 10 or it may be negative as well, it can be drawn almost like the x-axis of a graph..    I think to graph the solution y&lt;2  you trace over the line  in a dark line style from number 2 downward   because Y is less then two, indicating  you do not know the exact value so it can be  any value on the shaded line.   Its been a while since i did  this kind of thing, hope this helped.  and im sorry if im wrong.
