Over in America the media never covers the royals, maybe like once a year. Alot of Americans don't even know who Prince Harry or William is. My mother doesn't and alot of others. My friend went to Britian and he saids that all they talk about.

  1. Barbara Walters had a special on the Royals March 3rd.

  2. does that matter??? its not part of our culture. and it has nothing to do with politics so they have no  power over their country except influence

  3. I'm sorry but I think you'll find that your media does cover the royal family.  I'm a Brit who returned yesterday from a week long trip to Las Vegas and the story about Prince Harry having to return from Afghanistan was either the lead or second story on all of the national news programmes.  In fact, the Today show did an extra long piece on the interview that Prince Harry and Prince Charles did on his return.

Plus one of the first things I'm asked by almost all Americans when I tell them where I'm from is 'do you know the Queen?'!!

  4. Are you saying that we should have different news in our newspapers?Perhaps we should devote page after page to the incoherent, inarticulate ramblings of your your imbecilic president? The latest high scholl shootout, more photos of Britney Spears being carted off to yet another hospital or the mindless piece of white trash Paris Hilton? If you don't like the news here, take no notice. We will lose no sleep over it.

  5. Well, of course, they aren't OUR ROYALS!!!  We broke away from England in 1776, remember?   However, a lot of Americans are interested in them and in what goes on in the "old country".  And most of us actually DO know who William and ´Harry are.  They are covered far more than once a year.  They are Diana's sons, and SHE graced and still graces the covers of countless magazines every year.  We all heard about it when Charles married Camilla, and we heard of it more from the point of view as to how the boys felt about it.

They have both been to America a couple of times, and they made huge news here when they did.  I can actually, right now, see the picture of them (with Di, of course) in the log flume ride (I think at Palisades Park in California) all freshly sprayed with water and ltfao.  It was a charming slice of life photo, and really refreshing to see them all having a good time.

Yeah, the media DOES talk about the royals.  you just don't watch it.  (it IS, admittedly, conidered pretty fluffy journalism, at best).

  6. actually, we do get a fair share of 'royal' news. Obviously not as much as in GB, but we still take an interest.

  7. I don't agree with you.  While the US doesn't report daily on Elizabeth II and the other royals, they do have coverage when something is notable or of particular interest.  Last week there was quite a lot of coverage about Prince Harry.

Over the past weeks there have been several reports about the Diana inquest, the illness of Prince Edward's young son, Prince Andrew's visit to the US, etc.

While not everyone knows about the royals, most do and many are more interested in the young princes than the Bush twins.

    best of luck to you!

  8. The royal family is covered in the news.  As part of the news as any other news artical would be.  The problem is that we as americans, if I remember correctly, fought a war to not be under their control so therefore the royal family does not have the same importance here as they do in Britian.  I know who Queen Elizabeth is.  Who Prince Charles is (*** that he is), whom his wife is, cried when Diana died.  I also know whom Prince William and Prince Harry are.  Do I particularly care whom they marry, nope, not my princes, not my royalty. And no, niether of them are particularly good looking (especially poor Harry).

  9. we have quite a bit of news on the royals......but it does not fill our day....just like you don't want to hear about us all the time.  we have our own problems.....like loony celebs.....we have lots of them....and school shoot outs.....etc.....i think it is nice that  the royals don't have our papers filled with all of their little indiscretions.....we don't have room in the paper for them along with all of our tribulations.....oh well, what are we to do?????

  10. It's interesting to Americans, but not as much as it is to Brits.  I'm sure there are things that happen in the US that you guys don't see on your TV.  The media will put on whatever they think the people will watch.  They make money when more people watch, so that's how it works.

  11. I don't see what you're getting at, what is your question, if your question is , why doesn't the news in the USA cover the Royal family?   My answer is we are a separate country from Great Britain, we are interested (some of us are) but it's not a real big deal.  Many Americans who aren't of British derivation could care less about  the Royal family and like you mentioned, they don't even know their names.

We do share some of the same values and we speak the same language, I love Great Britain mostly because of my English grandmother, who I was close to and I was named after her mother.  I also love history and  visualize a rich sweeping saga from the days of Arthur to Princess Diana all in a  place about the size of Ohio, it is mind boggling.

  12. America does cover the royals. As an American I know about them. For a while they did not have anything. Unless they did something out of the ordinary. Then People Magazine came out about William possible getting married. Plus the Queen came to the U.S. almost a year ago. Since then the media has been covering them a little bit more.

As for your mother she may not know who William and Harry are. But I am sure she knows who the Queen is.
