I think you'll find to the best of the knowledge that is out there tea originated in Southeast Asia, and these days people drink it all over the world

You will find that many drinks originate from plants although you may also find that a lot tend to be alcoholic.  Coffee is a quite popular drink that is made from a plant for instance, or any type of fruit juice for that matter.

I think you'll find that China was doing that with plants thousands of years before America was discovered by Europeans. I think you'll also find that there are many varieties of plant that are cultivated to make the drink called "tea" - tea is the name given to any infusion of leaves in water, hence Peppermint Tea, Hibiscus Tea, etc.

We also have the things you call "telephones" and "computers" and "Aeroplanes" that aren't just for you Americans!
