  1. No it is not.

Advance placement classes are not necessary to get in to college.

You do have to take a certain amount of classes also certain types,

such as a foreign language, math, english, arts class (music, choir, theater)

and of course keep your grades up.

  2. AP is an optional way to get college CREDIT hours before entering college, assuming the college accepts your score (if they accept AP at all)

If its not AP, its honors (slight gpa increase) or just a normal class

ex: AP Bio, Bio honors, Bio

Colleges dont look for just AP classes. They look at grades compared to workload

  3. agreeing with Jack P, it's usually called regulars or regs (plural form depending on how many regular classes you're taking). You dont necessarily need to be in AP to gain admission into US universities, it does help because most colleges give credits for AP classes. There is also the IB (Iinternational baccalaureate) which teaches more on the international level and colleges also recognize that as well. To reiterate, I dont think you need to be in AP or higher level courses like that; however, it really helps when it comes to college admission =)

    Hope this helped! =D

  4. for us its just called Regular or Reg...
