It is where students go to finish up any homework or study for tests, I remember having to go to study hall until the class that I had on my schedule was available

Study hall is a period of time designated for you to study, do homework, or use other school resources like the library or computer lab.  Usually students are assigned to a classroom for that period, and a teacher watches over them making sure that they are quiet and giving permission for them to go do other things they might need to (like go to the library.)
