In one of my earlier questions someone told me that recentely the underground metro tunnel is closed for a couple of months due to reconstruction. I will be stopping here for an airplane flight the day after tommorrow so I need to know so I can plan if I can go around the place or just to stay put in the Schiphol airport.

  1. Coming from the Airport into town you will use the train, not the metro.

And going round town you might use trams of buses, not likely the metro in any case, so it is very unlikely that you will be affected by it any way.

Get to the train as soon as you arrive at Schiphol, it can take up to an hour between landing and leaving the airport area, and when returning to the airport, do not leave it late.

The line for the passport control can take more than an hour, the security checks too.

I am always 2 hours early for my flight, but at times that is just enough to make it through the system.

Have fun in Amsterdam! and on the rest of your travels.

  2. Actually the metro has nothing to do with the airport.  I think he meant in case you wanted to use the metro to get around Amsterdam itself (which you won't be able to do much of with your short layover).

If you go from Schiphol to the centre of A'dam then it will be train and not metro, and if you want to get around the centre you can do it by (overground) tram (but actually to get a canal boat tour you don't need to do that either, just walk out of the main entrance and there are several to choose from on both sides)

The train station at Schiphol is actually inside the terminal.  As you leave from arrivals then you will see it.  You can buy a ticket from the yellow machines (or nearby booths), then just go down the esclator and you are on the platform (just check the overhead signs first so you go to the right platform).

    Good luck
