In Animal Farm, what does the flag compare to in history?

The flag was green, with a hoof and a horn painted on it in white. The green was to represent the green fields of england, and the hoof would represent the future republc of the animals, which would arise when the human race was finally overthrown.

The flag in Animal Farm was an analogy of the flag of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.  The entire book was an analogy of the USSR.  On the Soviet flag, the red stood for the far left stance of the government, the Hammer represented the country's Industry, the Sickle represented the country's Agriculture, and the red star represented the government regulating the two.
