In Australia, if I happen to find gold(or something else of great value) in my backyard......?

Would I be able to claim its value in money or would the goverment claim its value in money?

let the cops know & if there is no claim on it(stolen) it is yours

If it's a gold Nugget and you own your property it's yours. And there is a good chance there is more if It's something that has been lost or stolen by someone take it to the police and if it's not been claimed by anyone it will be yours after 3 months I think it is.
