I'm tired of living in queensland! they call football rugby! Especially in north Queensland where u meet real aussies, stubbies, blue singley and thongs.

If you look in any Australian Dictionairy Football is defined as Australian Football leauge!!!!

So to all you people outthere call a spade a spade, call Rugby: Rugby, or leauge or Union.

I'm tired of people tarninshing the game I love, the game I grew up blaying in the mud as a kid in Western Australia

  1. I wouldn't know. I was born and breed in W.A were we live and breath for our footy.. that's Aussie rules. Were there is a football oval in every suburb and every car has a AFL teams number plate. I seriously don't know a single person who supporters a NRL team. I consider myself lucky to live in such a Aussie Rules state. I call rugby - rugby or NRL. Rugby can't be called football, they barley use their feet, change it to handball! i suggest you move back to western Australia, you'll feel more at home.

CARN THE EAGLES!! glad to see you go for the right team and not the shocker dockers!

  2. The rest of the world (except for the Yanks and us) call soccer Football (that's like 4BN people versus the population of Vic, SA and WA calling it soccer  - not even the whole country). Great we're like the Yanks!!

Rugby is called Football in SA, NZ and eastern states of Australia

Rugby Football codifed its rules and separated from Association Football due to the Association rules not allowing tackling and handling

Both codes (association football and rugby football) formed before Aussie Rules (go read the history of Aussie Rules and why they didn't adopt Rugby Football rules due to the pitch hardness in Vic)

So net is it doesn't matter but facts are rest of the world doesn't give a flying "xxxx" about AFL neither do the Eastern States except for 80K fans in Sydney, Brisbane and East Coast

Go back to WA if you want to play aerial ping pong and kick like a football goallie (football) and dont allow physical contact (rugby football)

  3. I dont live in queensland so im not entirely sure about what u mean, but my goodness i can imagine the frustration youre going through and how annoying it may be - especially if youre a passionate supporter and lover of AFL. Oh and by the way mate you support the right team : ) CARN west coast!

  4. AFL=Football? Ew no.

No one cares if you came from the slums of Western Australia.

You live in QUEENSLAND now where football IS RUGBY.

    Don't like it? Leave.

    I call soccer, football

    I call rugby league, footy

    i call rugby, union

    i call "aussie rules", afl.

  5. umm who honestly really cares? lol

  6. You are preaching to the converted in here - post this question in the RL site and see what you get!!

  7. I'm confused.

    I call them all football.

  8. No doubt, football in this country is AFL always has, always will be, regardless of what they call it overseas soccer is soccer and NRL is league or rugby, end of story

  9. It all depends on what state you're in and who you actually talk to. I will call Rugby League or Soccer 'football' only if I know I'm talking to someone who recognises that particular game as 'football'.

You would not believe how often "Did you watch the football on the weekend?" can start an argument amongst the passionate of sporting fans.

Personally, I use AFL, Soccer, NRL and Union so as to avoid confusion.

  10. I used to live in QLD (maryborough) and everyone there absolutely hated the game i think i met about 5 other ppl who actually liked the game but yea i got sick of them calling AFL gayfl and arial pingpong. but qld is a rugby state so we just have to live with it. im living in Melbourne now so its all good. and now i get to see my pies whenever i want!

  11. You live in Qld AND support the West Coast Eagles - I don't think I can handle that

At least you support the proper football code

  12. **I'm a born and breed Victorian so to me AFL will always been Aussie Rules.**

  13. Hey dropkick! Who the h**l is gonna go out and play NRL?

    "Hey dude! Whatcha doing?"

"Me and my mates are going down the road to play NRL!"

    WTF???

I guess that means the most popular team sport in the world isn't soccer after all. It's FIFA!! We play AFL as much as you play NRL!

Edit.  Hey Rere. If you don't like the answers in HERE, then leave!

  14. I know its annoying but football means soccer and i do call it football and in the dicionary football means soccer and gridine and i live in queensland and they are passionate about rugby instead of afl but i like afl and football these should be the definitions

    soccer-football, soccer

afl- aussie wules, afl, aussie football

    rugby-rugby

  15. rugby should be called bum sniffing

  16. Footy means Aussie rules to me...all those other games ie:soccer, rugby etc are NOT footy...they are soccer or rugby etc.

I grew up in Victoria and still have issues with AFL vs VFL...lol...along come all these interstate teams who got jealous of Victorias success and wanted to join our competition when they already had local competition....grrrrr!...lol...

  17. Football has been generalised and can mean any of the codes. Just depends on which state you are from.

But in my eyes AFL will only ever be Areal Ping Pong to me. (lol)the only one of the footy codes I never got into. Plus it is kinda boring when no other country plays it.

  18. I think you'll find they call Rugby LEAGUE, football.

How about this, you Vics stop calling everything apart from aussie rules Rugby, and we might call football, rugby league?

    hows that?

  19. Footy is Footy (that being aussie rules)

    Soccer is soccer

    League is league

    Rugby is rugby

There it is all made simple!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

(PS - If your a true blue Australian Soccer will always be soccer and the term footy will never catch on unless your from o/s)

  20. Soccer, (or association football as the pedantic wish to call it) and the two rugby codes, are all as boring as h**l! The rules are so convoluted you can't understand them, and the players are so unfit they wouldn't last half an AFL game.

If you are in Vic. don't forget to see some of the International Cup games being played in Melbourne and Warrnambool from Aug 27th onwards. 16 overseas teams playing the worlds best game AUSSIE RULES

  21. If you say Football, I think Soccer.

I call Rugby League, League or NRL.

    I call Rugby Union, Rugby

    I call AFL, AFL.

    It's not football, it's AFL.

Asterix (and Obelix, I love that comic)

"I call Rugby League, League or NRL."

League for the game or NRL for the competition.  Perhaps I should have elaborated.

I could also call AFL, the following names.  Aeriel Ping Pong, Backyard Ballet, Kick and Giggle,  Mens Netball, etc.  I'll just stick with AFL.  I haven't heard it called Aussie Rules around here since I was a kid.  We all call it AFL.
