I want to visit both the Chatuchak weekend market and MBY/Siam Center areas all in one day. How early does the Chatuchak market open and what time does MBK center close? if I am coming from Khao San Road, what time should i leave my hotel to get there? should i take a cab going to a skytrain or just head straight there?

  1. Gerald is right about the times, but some more advice MBK opens at 10 am but a lot of shops don't open until noon.  I would say half the shops may be open at 10 am.

  2. Chatuchak opens at 9:00AM, MBK closes at 10:00PM. Traffic is about as light as it gets in Bangkok on weekend mornings, so it shouldn't take any longer than 20-30 minutes to get to Chatuchak by taxi from Khao San Rd. which is probably the best and quickest way on a weekend morning. From Chatuchak and the Mo Chit Skytrain Station you can take the Skytrain to the National Stadium (and MBK) stop with a transfer at the Siam Station if you don't buy too much at Chatuchak and have to drop your loot off at your hotel first.

  3. You can get to chatuchack as early a 8.00 am. When places are still setting up. There are two reasons for doing this.

    1. The place gets really hot and crowded well before lunch

    2. First sale of the day is lucky, you'll be able to negotiate better discounts.

Best time to go to MBK is on a weekday before lunch but  not too early

  4. you can leave your hotel just before noon as most of the stall haven't opened till noon... you have no problem visting both places in one days but I would suggest that you visit MBK first before heading to Chatucak to avoid the traffic jam before 4pm.
