In California, Taking The Written Test At The DMV...?

Right now, there is an error on my birth certificate that I can't take care of with the Court because I dont have that kind of money right now. I was wondering, will the DMV let me take the written test if I show them my California Identification Card and Social Security Card Only? People have told me they've used only that and got to take the test, and other people have said they needed the certificate. I really don't want to take 2 buses up there just to waste my time and leave emptyhanded. Did any of you had to show your Birth Certificate or just your I.D. And Social??

  1. Wow, that was so long ago, I don't even remember. I asked my husband if our seventeen year old son needed his. The answer is no. If you have some form of ID with you, the birth certificate is not needed. I'm pretty sure you need to show proof of residence too but that should be on your ID card. I hope this helps.

  2. im sorry, but they've been extra anal about the whole birth certificate thing lately.

Do you ahve a passport? because the passport will also work, if not, you won't be able to take your test
