In California, how many days late can the rent be, before a late fee can be charged?

Is there any "legal" time, like rent not paid by the 5th of the month gets you a late fee, or does it all depend on the rental agreement?

California does not require a "grace period".  Rent is late after the due date unless stated otherwise in your lease.

If rent is due on the 1st, the late fee can be charged on the 2nd in CA.

Answer 3

You can be charged a late fee as soon as your payment becomes late.  That includes one hour late.
