In California does your car need to have a current registration to trade it in?

My regristration is past due, I didn't send it in cause I planned to sell it ,the deal fell trough, now I want to trade it in at a dealer.

  1. There is nothing in the California Vehicle Code that prohibits the sale of an unregistered car. Just don't drive or park it on the street. It does prohibit that. Good luck on getting a deal from a car dealer. Do a check on kbb.com to see the current value and autotrader.com to see what other folks are selling like vehicles.
