In California - if you serve on a jury - will they wait longer than a year to call you again?

I know that they can only summons you for jury duty once a year. Once you call in - (and don't get picked) - they can't call you again for a year. If you DO get picked and actually serve on a jury - do they have to wait longer before they summons you again?

Please provide sites and references. I really need a solid answer.

Thanks.

  1. You shouldn't be summoned more than once in 12 months. If you have already responded to a summons or have served in the past 12 months, contact your local jury office. Explain to the staff person that you have been summoned twice in 12 months. It is important for you to contact the court to resolve the problem.

  2. I seem to get called once a year, like clockwork, in  San Bernardino county.  I have been on two juries, and the other times excused, and it didn't seem to affect when I was called again.

But the answer will vary by county, I am sure.

  3. The one year hiatus applies to response to a jury summons, not jury service.  Whether you are picked for a jury or not, you can be summoned again after a year. Since selection is random, how soon you get selected again after that year is up is unpredictable.  For some people it appears to happen often.  It has been several years since I was last summoned.  It is just chance.
