In Canada, Can you have a trout as a pet?

I've always wanted to have a rainbow trout as a pet and was wondering if it is possible. Are there any laws against it?

sure! I've kept a small sunfish as a pet, then released it. Feed it night crawlers hooked on a safety pin attached to some fishing line. A set up for a trout should be a 29 gallon tank, 40 gallon filter, and if you want a air pump w/ air stone. Feed it worms you find, and tropical fish food. Have fun!

There is a law against it, but you won't find anyone willing to charge you that actually has enough authority to do so.

yeah even some people have largemouth bass as pets...but if your that concerned check your state lwas or game and fish laws

Yah...sure you can... You can even have an Ant as a pet.. But your gonna have a hard time walking it.. lol

If you have a large outdoor lake with good oxygen supply and aquatic life then yes you can, there must also be a source of food for them.

I don't see why it's illegal. It's a common freshwater fish.
