In Canada, how long does it take to get a passport? Do we need on to cross the border to the States?

I want to go to the States but my passport has expired. Do you think I can get a new one in less then a month? Do I need it?

In the U.S., you can pay extra and get it rushed.....I don't know about there; I think you do need one these days.......

You are required to hold a valid passport if you travel by AIR.

You don't need a passport when traveling by "LAND or SEA" (TILL JUNE 2009) You need a government issued photo ID such as a driver's license and birth certificate.

It takes 2 weeks to get a new passport if you apply in person.There are few other options like express or pick-up services,that will take less than 2 weeks but additional fees will apply.Check out the link below for info
