Iv just braught my first car, and i really want a nice sound system - however some i have heard are just all base and not clear at all!

I want my system to be clear, quite loud, and bassy (not to the extreme lol). My budget is 200 pounds (could go a little over) i already have a decent sterio player.

I just have no idea what 6x9, what amp and what subs are the best or even what they are for lol!

THANKS EVERYONE!!! :D :D

  1. dont buy any thing brand new off the shelf from halfords, go to an independant specialist, i did and got a stonking system for £180  including fitting, it was all secondhand but the rear speakers in the parcel shelf (6x9) were £130 alone if i bought them brand new, and my system sounds better than most others i have heard

  2. Hey

right first things first you have to think about what set up you want.. eg do you want good sounds? do you want a cheap system rude boy crunk? a good mix of all round?

well what id personally do is either go for coaxial speaker's all round or component speakers at the front and amp them up. that's your great sound sorted :D

Now for the bass just amp up a sub in your boot there you go all round bass and great sound...

    What about 6x9s your asking?

Well all 6x9s are a cheap way of having everything in one eg. good sound, bass, mids, highs so its not all gonna be the best quality to be honest compared to the set up above. Also think about it if your mounting 6x9s in your parcel shelf the sounds gonna go straight out the window what a waste!

if you want my advice id scrap the 6x9s and go for the other setup but obviously 6x9s are the cheaper option and a quick way too.. all depends on money, time and also if your not doing it yourself labour costs..

i would search online for speakers etc as you can get higher ranges for alot cheaper..

    hope that helps =]

  3. The figures you need to be looking at are the Sensitivity of the speakers in dB (decibels).  For 1 Watt of input energy, measured 1 meter away, a speaker may have a reading of 88dB.  A better one may have a reading of 92 dB.  this may not sound like much, but it is a measure of efficiency, measured on a curve, so the second speaker actually sounds twice as loud as the first!  So forget "600 Watts" claims for little speakers, look at power measured in true RMS Watts, not "Peak Music Power Output" which is typically four times the true RMS figure, and check on Sensitivity.  Find quality speakers with a 96dB figure or better, and you will have all the clarity you need.

You also need to 'cap-off' the front-door speakers, ot stop them trying to handle bass.  Leave the bass to the 6x9's in the back shelf, and if you are also having a sub, it must be boxed or else it will 'pump' the air in your boot-volume, and ruin the signals the 6x9's are trying to produce.

I don't recommend ANY stereo for a new driver for the first two years.
