  1. No you do not need to take it, but you have to consider the advantage or disadvantage before taking any piece or not taking any piece.  In other words, if you take a piece, down the road in the match you could lose because you took the piece and the same holds true if you don't take a piece.  The other thing you could do is buy a computerized chess game and see what the computer would do.  The ideal situation is to cause your opponent to make the wrong move and for you to win.

  2. You can ignore it.

Those are often referred to as "declined" captures.

  3. Nope you do not have to

  4. Nope. You don't have to take the piece.

  5.    it can be ignored, if you choose not to make the move.

  6. definitely not! imagine the queen having to capture any piece the opponent offers... then it would be more of a liability than an asset

  7. It depends on the situation at that moment. By ignoring opponents piece & if u r able to say check to the opponent & win the game it is well& good.

  8. Capturing an opponent's piece is usually not mandatory in Chess.

The only times that capturing an opponent's piece might be mandatory would be when it is the only legal move that can be made.

In many positions the best move might actually be not to capture an opponent's piece because such a capture could be a trap and turn the game in your opponent's favor.

  9. no if you had to take it that would ruin the game
