  1. My secondary school started at 8.50 and ended at 3.45, but other schools would be different.

    Grades are:

    A:  85-100%

    B:  70-84

    C:  55-69

    D:  40-54

    E:  25-39

    F:  10-24

    NG (no grade): 0-9

You do tests/assessments throughout the school year and then you normally have summer exams in each subject at the end of the year.  The grades you get on these exams are sent to you in an end-of-year report.

At the end of your last year in secondary school, you do your Leaving Certificate exams.  The grades you get in these determine what courses you can do in college.

  2. Whatever they are teaching in American schools it's not spelling and grammar.

  3. Most secondary schools start classes between 8.45 and 9.15am and go on to about 3.30 to 4.00pm

Grading is done on a percentage basis.

    40% is the pass mark.

    0-9% NG (No grade)

    10-24% F

    25-39% E

    40-54% D

    55-69% C

    70-84% B

    85-100% A

Grades A, B and C on Higher Level papers are known as 'honours'.

At Leaving Certificate Level the grades are broken down more.

    90 – 100% A1

    85 – 89.9% A2

    80 – 84.9% B1

    75 – 79.9% B2

    70 – 74.9% B3

    65 – 69.9% C1

    60 – 64.9% C2

    55 – 59.9% C3

    50 – 54.9% D1

    45 – 49.9% D2

    40 – 44.9% D3

    25 – 39.9% E

    10 – 24.9% F

    0 – 9.9% NG
