  1. The will be a King when the current Queen dies, and Prince Charles, as next in line to the throne, becomes King. The eldest male child of the current Monarch (King or Queen), is first in line, followed by his male children. So if Charles were to die, William would be next in line to be King, followed by Harry.

When there is no male heir, the title goes to the first female child of the current Monarch. Elizabeth is Queen because she was the eldest daughter of the previous King. But her husband is "only" Prince Philip, and not King Philip, because he married into the royal line, rather than being born into it.

Similarly, Queen Victoria's husband was Prince Albert, not King Albert, and so on.

The wife of a King is traditionally his Queen (we'll see what happens with Camilla when Charles becomes King), but as soon as the King dies, the monarchy passes to his eldest male heir - his wife becomes the Queen Mother (e.g. the previous King's wife was also Queen Elizabeth - but she was not the monarch. As soon as he died, she became Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and her daugher became Queen Elizabeth II).

  2. The current monarch in the UK is The Queen;she was heir to the throne of her father, King George VI.Since there is a queen as regent, there can be no one with a title higher than hers. That is why her husband Philip, although of Royal blood, is Prince Consort. And since the title king presumes the leader,no one can bear that title as long as there is a Queen Regent. Elizabeth II's heir is Prince Charles and he will be the next king in the UK.There are other Kings in the world at present, like King Juan Carlos of Spain.

And to correct an answer, Edward VIII abdicated in favor of his brother George VI,father of the present Queen Elizabeth II,so he could marry Wallis Simpson,a twice-divorced  commoner. George VI,the last King, died of LUNG CANCER and did not abdicate!

  3. Queen (Kwinne)is an old Saxon and Scandinavian word for simply "woman",over time became used as "The woman"(of the king,of course).

Way back then still was used for any other woman, wench or waif. The last became used for "married" and the first, women took offense on it."Womb-man" for women, strangely took as proper denomination for member of the female gender.

It has remained the only Woman (of consequence),while woman became accepted in Middle english for any other one too,Dame from latin or Lady from  Normans became the honorable call.

King is the Title holder of office, any woman with him regardless marriage is by his power bestowed as "his Queen".

K(vinne)-ing(gerund or facts maker)....the maker of women.

    The first Cocq.

    Edit/

'Kvinne' comes from the same indoeuropean root ('Kunnje')for Cunia in italian and ***** in evoved english -what meant "Wedge"- as the definning feature of a member of theat gender. But in english became offensive,as to call a man just "d**k"

  4. ...Nope, No king right now. the last king gave up the thrown so he could marry a commoner. His sister is currently Queen. She is married but I do not know why her husband is not called king.

  5. Nope, the monarch is inherited by the eldest son, or if no sons then the eldest daughter.  Elizabeth II was the elder between her and Margaret, so when King George died, she inherited the throne.  When she dies, Charles, or William, depending on who out lives her, will be King.

  6. Historically, a King is more important than a queen. The queen's current husband is not a member of the royal family, and so cannot be king, as he would then be more important than her. As such, he is known as Prince Phillip.

If Prince Charles were to ascend to the throne, he would become known as King Charles, and his wife would become Queen, because the king is more important than the queen, and so it doesn't matter that she's not part of the royal family.

  7. The current British monarch is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Her husband is The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

King George VII of the United Kingdom only had two daughters, "The Princess Elizabeth" and "The Princess Margaret." According to the British line of succession, if there was no male heir, the next in line is the eldest female heiress. As a result, The Princess Elizabeth became heiress presumptive. An heir presumptive is the person provisionally scheduled to inherit a throne, peerage, or other hereditary honor, but whose position can be displaced by the birth of an heir apparent or of a new heir presumptive with a better claim to the throne.

Her husband, The Prince Philip was a Prince of Greece and Denmark and does not have any claim to the British throne.

Prince Philip could be titled as "King Consort" if Queen Elizabeth II wanted to, however it is still only a courtesy title. King consort is a title given in some monarchies to the husband of a queen regnant. Nowadays, it is a symbolic title only, the sole constitutional function of the holder being similar to a queen consort, namely to produce an heir to the throne. Spain, Portugal, England and Scotland have all had kings consort; however, since the rank of king normally outranks that of queen, in most monarchies the queen's husband is given the title of prince or prince consort instead.

When Prince Philip first married to then “The Princess Elizabeth”, he was only styled as “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.” It was only until 1957 when Philip was finally styled as "His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh". The Queen has never granted the Prince Philip the title of Prince Consort and it was speculated that she would on their 60th anniversary.

The next British monarch will definitely be a "King." Prince Charles of Wales (eldest son of the Queen) is first in line to the throne, followed by his eldest son, Prince William of Wales and youngest son, Prince Harry of Wales.

  8. Just to correct the people who have posted incorrect info here. Prince Charles' people have announced that when Charles becomes King, Camilla will not take the title of Queen, but will rather be Princess Consort, in honour of Diana.

  9. No and hopefully there never will be...we need to build a stable on an island somewhere in the middle of nowhere and dump the horsey g*y lot....bloody waste of tax payers money.

  10. At this time the Monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, her husband is Prince Phillip, so no there is no King at this time, the next British Monarch will be a King as it will be Prince Charles or should he feel it better for the country he could well pass the crown on to his son Prince William.
