  1. Both are dergogatory terms although those who say it, don't normally think so.   The English say pikey to refer to travellers or tourists. It doesn't seem derogatory in definition but when used in context is what makes it derogatory.  A pommie is the term the Australians use when talking about the British.

  2. I thought a pikey was a chav and a Pommie was originally a British person transported to Australia as a Prisoner Of his/her Majesty.

  3. I know a pikey is a Gypsy, but i'm pretty sure its considered a racial slur there, so be careful. I think it's based on the idea that they would set up camps at turnpikes.

A Pommy is a british immigrant to australia, supposedly names because they would get sunburnt and turn red, like a pomegranate.

  4. easy!

a pikey is our slang term for gypsy, gyppo, traveller but not hippies cos they are different

a pommie is an aussie slang term 4 english person, cos wen they go to aussie, they burn n go red like a pomegranate

i wunt use word pikey all the tyme tho cos it can b offensive 2 sum

    hope i helped!

  5. "Pikey" is either slang for a gypsy, or a more general term referring to those of a lower social class than oneself. It is now considered an offensive (racist) word so be careful who you say it to.

Nowadays, the word "chav" (another gypsy term) seems to be the most acceptable way to denigrate people you regard as lesser than yourself.

"Pommie" or "pom" is Australian slang for an English person - similar to "limey" in the U.S.
