For example if I name a range of cells Aug15 and another range of cells Aug16, can I add Aug15 + Aug 16 and get a grand total from each cell in those two ranges?

  1. =SUM(Aug15, Aug16)

    Note: if you use =SUM(Aug15:Aug16), the formula will sum ALL numbers between the top corner of one range and the bottom corner of the other, even data that is not IN the actual ranges.  This can be useful if the data is set up in order in tidy columns and you want to capture the contents in between, but hazardous if ranges are not connected.

  2. Yes you can.  Check out the forum at MrExcel.  I've used them plenty of times when I get stuck in excel.

  3. Yes.  The formula would be:

    =Sum(Aug15:Aug16)
