I have heard that in France, when swimming you must wear a swimming costume (one piece), however i've also heard wearing a tankini and bikini is okay. So i just want to clarify which is correct. This is for a local swimming pool, and not a hotel swimming pool.

Thanks in advance.

  1. This mostly applies to guys, since very few women do not swim in a one-piece, tankini or bikini.

Board shorts are forbidden in most of Europe because the shorts can be worn as street clothes.

So, men must, whether you like it or not, wear briefs (Speedo, Nike, TYR) when swimming, sanitation laws.

I hope that clears up your question. Have fun, if you have a guy friend or husband, find him a pair of swim briefs--Sports Authority or Dic*'s Sporting Goods before you go to Europe.

  2. As a woman, you can wear any swimming suit you want at the beach (even a thong and topless) and at the swimming pool you can wear whatever swimming suit you want as long as you don't show your b*****s or your bottom.
