How do you increase accuracy and reliability in an experiment? Bearing in mind accuracy and reliability are different from each other.

  1. Accuracy:

    -Use precise, fair eqiupment

    -Make sure to keep all the of the non-variable factors as constant as possible by whatever means

    Reliability:

    -Repeating the experiment many times to get a more reliable average

    -Again, ensuring that there are no other, unwanted factors having an effect on your result

    hmm. That's all I could think of for now, but I'll get back to you if something springs to mind.

    Why/ how do you know that precise equipment doesn't ensure accuracy?


  2. reliabilty - get more data - be more accurate - keep things the same temperaure etc

    Accuracy - Use better equipment, measure to more decimal places- ie weight 24.28g rather that 24g
