I have a crepe myrtle that is so over grown I can barely see pulling out my driveway. I guess nobody has ever cut it down to the nubs. My lawn person said if I cut it now it coudl kill it because it's in bloom. But I forgot to ask what month IS it ready to be cut down to the nub?

  1. the best time to trim for you would probably be around march 15.  and i would not cut it the nub i would start by taking lower branches off and keep getting higher until you have a nice looking tree.

  2. if you're going to cut it back 'to the nub', just take it out completely... 'crepe murder' will only get you a stressed tree with weak wood and  look awful for the whole winter and spring right there by the driveway entrance!!.... replace it with a smaller type crepe or another plant....

  3. late winter....http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu.bJ_JxIR3...
