  1. I don't know about that but there was a race at Ascot, Queen Anne Stakes, several years ago where the first 3 home were disqualified and the race given to the horse which finished 4th.   Also at Ascot there was a 2 horse race which resulted in a photo finish where it took 25 minutes to decide the winner and where it was found later that it was actually the other horse which had won.  One of the participants in that race was Baronet which won the Cambridgeshire on his next outing.

I have since discovered that on 22 October 1855 at Newmarket a race of 5 runners produced a quadruple dead heat.  In the re-run of the race the finishing order was, Overreach,The Unexpected, Gamester and Lady Golightly.

Relevant to another recent question you may also like to know this. The Great Metropolitan, a race at Epsom, was run twice on the same day in 1903.  Wavelet's Pride won both times. Virago won the City and Suburban and Great Metropolitan Handicaps on the same day 6 April 1854.
