Not many. This is a low priority for the Indian government on all levels. Partly this is due to the lack of wilderness areas that can be set aside. The population pressures are intense in India, and attitudes towards animals are a little irrational. For example, it's unconstitutional to kill a cow, but they don't feed them either. Cattle that belong to no one roam freely about Indian cities eating whatever garbage they can find and slowly starve to death. Monkeys go on rampages in major cities but since the monkey is sacred to the monkey god Hanuman, efforts to dispel them are lame at best.
