In Indian Railways, can one finish journey before the station upto which ticket has been booked?

Suppose I have booked a Tatkal ticket reserved upto station A and later I find it may be better to finish journey at station B which comes just before station A. Is it allowed as per indian railways rules to finish journey this way? Or will the ticket checker at station B will raise objection and impose penalty for doing so?

  3. Oh ! yes, you can certainly terminate your journey before your destination as per the ticket. No penalty for that.  

  4. You can terminate your journey at any statios prior to the station mentioned in your ticket. You cannot go beyong the station mentioned in your ticket. If you do so you may be penalized. But you can definitely terminate your journey at a prior station.

  8. Nooo, they perfidiously force you to stay on the train by chaining you to it. :-)

    Honestly: Why should they care if you leave earlier. You've paid the price for the full distance anyways.
