I was going to buy a car froma private seller and was never told the car was a salvage. He never gave us a title to the car and gave us an excuse after having it for a week the title was owned by the bank. I did some investigating and found out the car is salvage. Not only that, the car quit running the first day I testdrove it and I told them I didnt want it but they told methey would take $300.00 for it and I could fix it. I gave them the money and they never gave me the title. Now after investigating like I mentioned, the bank has the title and the car holds a salvage title. He wont give me my money back and now on top of it he wants the car. Please help with any advice??????

  2. Wow, what a mess!!! If I were you I would give the car back and consider the $300 as the price of a good lesson in how not to buy a car.

The lessons to be learned here are:

    1) Never give money to a car seller unless he has the title. If the bank holds the title, go to the bank with him to pay off the loan and get the title then and there.

    2) Never take the word of a seller about the condition of a car. Always get the car inspected BEFORE buying it -- and get a CarFax report.

    3) Realize that used cars are sold "as-is" and can't be taken back when problems are found later -- even if the seller lied or failed to disclose problems.

    Good luck.

  3. Cars are sold by title.  Thank you for giving a perfect example of why money should never leave your hand without seeing the title.  And if the title isn't clear, or in the name of the seller, you should hand it back and keep your money in your pocket.

The car is his, and he has the right to demand it back.  If you refuse, he can send the police to get it and you'd be hard pressed to prove you didn't steal it.

Do you have anything?  A receipt for $300 as payment in full for the car?  If not, you're out both a car and $300.

  4. take the number plates off and take the car to a metal recycling yard.  any car brings 80 euro around here (IRL) . at least it wont be a dead loss.
