  7. The four leaf clover is a rare genetic mutation of the normal three leaved varieties.  

    In Ireland there are 2 common varieties of clover  these are Trillium pratense and Trilium repens. (Red and White Clover)  There a number of other varieties.  All the varieties have a range of various shapes / size  of leaves.  All however have three leaves.

    Most pressed and framed four leaved examples of 4 leafed clover are manufactured ie someone takes a three leafed variety and sticks a fourth leaf on to it.
