Am writing a dissertation on SATs and wondered if for reading and writing an average is given under the heading 'english' or whether in the results they are treated as two separate grades?

  1. Each person is given 4 separate marks

    (a) reading

    (b) analysis of a Shakespeare play

    (c) writing (long) and

    (d) writing (short)

They then add (a) and (b) together to give an overall for Reading, and they add (c) and (d) together to give an overall for Writing.

Finally, they then add all 4 together to give an "overall" score for English.

This overall mark then determines their Level.

  2. I think it is added together as an average.

  3. normally they are added together as 1 big score
