In Kansas can a law enforcement officer be around a convicted felon who is on probation but was not in prison?

If a law enforcement officer in Kansas invites a copule to their wedding and the husband is a felon can the law enforcement officer lose his job for associating with a felon? The felon is on probation no prison time was involved.

  1. I would expect a law enforcement professional to exercise better judgment than that.


  2. Inviting someone to a wedding does not constitute "close association".  The officer would not be subject to any disciplinary action unless the "close association" is far beyond just this event.

  3. It would all depend on the agency's regulations. I had a felon at my wedding, and I didn't get fired. Of course he is my wife's family, so not my fault.

  4. There are no laws preventing a police officer from hanging around with anyone.

    He can be held accountable for his conduct if he does something inappropriate with the felon, but just associating with him is not illegal.
