In Latin Europe, Latin Europeans are Latino

Question Details: I found this when looking around, I've heard Latin Europeans say this

Latino (feminine latina) in the Romance languages, such as Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, literally translates as "Latin". Portuguese dictionaries define the demonym latino to refer to natives of Romance-speaking nations influenced by Roman civilization, and to the natives or inhabitants of ancient Latium (modern Lazio). Italian dictionaries define the demonym latino as: the ancient Latins and Romans, and their language, Latin, as well as the neo-Latin nations. The dictionary of the Real Academia Española defines ten meanings for latino, including the ancient peoples of Latium and the modern Romance-speaking European and American nations. In these languages, latino, just like any other demonym, is by convention not capitalized.

  1. All western culture is deeply rooted in Latin culture, which is just another way of saying ancient Roman culture, from the old Roman Empire.  As for so-called "Latin Europeans", like the French, Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese, etc, their called "Latin" primarily because their languages and to an extent, their way of life and laws, are derived from those of ancient Rome, which itself was heavily influenced by Greek culture. But in a sense all western culture is fundamentally "Latin/Greek" in this sense. It has nothing to do with ethnicity, as all Europeans are very closely related. Just the southerners tend to tan better, the result of living in a sunny climate for a long time.

  2. The Latins as a tribe, the Latin language, culture and civilization in general all came from ancient Italy, and as such Italians are definitely Latin- unquestionably the purest Latin culture. The more you know, the more you study of this topic, the more you will agree with this; it's not arrogance, it's just the truth.

  3. The word Latin and Latino are the same. English speaking people and French say "Latin".Among the Latins French is the only nation which uses the term "Latin" instead of "Latino". Italy is the Latin (Latina) mother, the French,Spaniards,Romanians and Portuguese are also considered Latinos (Latin People).
People from the geographical location called erroneously (by the French) "Amerique Latine" are not culturally Latins and cannot claim any Latin background except to say that they speak a language which comes from the Latin of Italy. It would be nice if they stopped calling themselves "Latinos".

  4. The Vatican-City is not a Latin nation, the official language of the Vatican is Latin and Latin is not a Romance (Latin) language but an Italic one, Tough Italian is a Latin (Romance) language.
