  1. Switzerland uses a 3-prong (triangle shape) plug, though the typical European 2-prong (you just leave that third hole empty) will plug in as well.  it is true that you can buy it when you're there, supermarkets like Migros and Coop, or electronic department in stores like Jelmoli or Manor.  but i would buy it before leaving, if i were you.

my first visit to Switzerland, i didn't prepare anything, because i knew the hotel could lend me the adapters.  but the adapters they had were very simple types.  i don't know if you're ever seen an American 3-prong (the 2 top ones are flat, and there is a lower single prong that is round, which is grounding only), and it's standard for some laptop chargers, etc. the Swiss adapters did not have the single grounding round hole that the American 3-prongs plug into. so i ended up buying a Targus world-capable adapter at Jelmoli, for US $25, even though you can find it on ebay for $10.

so just prepare before you go.  there are many companies that make adapters intended for world-wide travel, and will fit any possible plugs.

  2. Depends on what you need it for. For computers, laptops, and other things with 2-piece AC adapters, you should be able to buy the cable that runs from the wall to the adapter. These are sold at most Interdiscounts, Fusts, and other electronics/home appliance stores. From the train station, the easiest is the Interdiscount across the street.

If you have an electric razor or similar, and you actually need a plug-to-plug adapter, it's a little tougher. I checked the indian plug online and that one is not typically on a lot of adapters. A multinational adapter might have it - again, check Interdiscount - but most of these only go to swiss 2-prong... not grounded.

If you're in Switzerland for an extended period of time... I'm talking years... it would probably be best to just convert the plug yourself. You can buy a new plug at any elctronic/home appliance place (even at grocery stores) and replace it simply with a good knife and a s***w driver. This is common in Switzerland as a great deal of standard European plug-equipped devices are around. It's safe, just do a nice job.

  3. generally not a problem.  If you are staying and any kind of good hotel they will be able to supply your needs.  If not they can steer you in the right direction to get an adapter.  I purchased an adapter kit in Dubai that has 11 adapters in it and have yet to find somewhere that I can't plug in.  Sometimes available in luggage stores.  Don't sweat the small stuff.  All will be well!

  4. Go to an electronics store

  5. go to MIGROS in Lausanne (this store is everywhere in Swizterland) go to the electronic dept. ang get it there.
