  1. It depends on the area you will be visiting. Lebanon has Christians, Muslims (Sunni & Shiites), & Druze. You will not notice the difference as Kate said from the first time you visit but if you go to certain areas, you can see conservative people of all religions, not just Shiites, I see that you plan to visit Lebanon from your other question, welcome, & good luck with that research ! I know some one who had a similar research, she recently finished, our university gave her an appreciation trophy for choosing our country to do her research at. So you will be treated well in here, all lebanese are warm people ! Welcome =)

  2. you can't generalize but it is known all over the world that Sunnis are more conservative than Shiites (al Qaeda are Sunnis!)

If you are talking about Hezbollah !! I think people think they are conservative because they are an "army"!

  3. not at all.

im from the jnoub (south lebanon), the heartland of all shias in lebanon lol, and i can gurantee that they are not as conservative as you would think. Thats just a perception and stereotype you here because many of them are very poor and in poverty, not really able to have such extravagance as the other sects.

but honestly, youll find the extremes everywhere in lebanon. Many neighborhoods in Lebanon are very religous, like some shia ones in the south, some sunni ones near beirut, and some christian ones in the north. Despite what you see on tv, lebanon is a very religously tolerant country :D

  4. Im from jnoub to!!

  5. In every country, in all religions, there are some people who are conservative and some who are not. Hard to get those statistics. Cheers!
