In Lego Star Wars 3 for Wii how do I...?

How do i use the characters in the customization tank? I have know idea how i can play as them. Also, why do some of the codes i type in not work. Most of them do but a few don't. Is it the game itself or have some codes become not usable.

You can only use your custom characters in free play. So beat a level, then go back to it and choose free play. Your custom characters will be the very last people in the way bottom and to the right
