In Lingerie got the green signal for the Kentucky Oaks for Todd Pletcher
Todd Pletcher trained 3-year-old filly, In Lingerie, after her decisive victory in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park has convinced connections that she is the Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks material, a race that will be held on 4 May, 2012,
at Churchill Downs.
Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber’s In Lingerie after winning her maiden special weight raced at first asking at Turfway Park on 14 January, 2012, at about six furlongs was privately acquired by Eclipse and Gary Barber from her previous owner
Warren Lyster.
The Kentucky bred daughter of Empire Maker, has been lightly raced, and under the new ownership she has just raced twice giving her just three career starts in all, but In Lingerie is being considered to be a solid competitor in the Kentucky Oaks, which
will be run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles and it the race is exclusive for 3-year-old fillies.
Under her new ownership and trainer, In Lingerie coupled with John Velazquez started at Gulfstream Park in an allowance/optional claimer at about a mile on 25 February, 2012, on dirt.
It was a troubled second for In Lingerie behind the winner, Zo Impressive, who downed the mile long allowance/optional claimer in 1 minute and 37.30 seconds.
However, back on the Turfway Park’s synthetic surface, In Lingerie along with John Velazquez came back to win the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks, also at a mile, as she defeated Dancing Solo in second and Toxis in third, while she covered the 1 mile distance in
1 minute and 38.28 seconds on 24 March, 2012.
Out of mare Cat Chat by Storm Cat, In Lingerie has now career earnings of $82,265.
“After huddling up with Todd (Pletcher) and our partner, Gary (Barber), we decided unanimously that running In Lingerie in the Oaks was a calculated risk worth taking,” said Eclipse president Aron Wellman.
“In Lingerie is an extremely talented yet relatively unseasoned filly. “She’s training exceptionally well, her numbers are progressive and well within striking distance of the top fillies pointed for the race, she will appreciate the distance, and she seems
to really be coming into her own at the moment," Wellman added.
