In Lingerie out, Broadway’s Alibi and Colonial Empress in for the Kentucky Oaks
Veteran trainer Todd Pletcher was being represented by two of his fillies in the Grade 1, $1 million Kentucky Oaks, but owned by Gary Barber in partnership by Eclipse Thoroughbred Parteners 3-year-old filly, In Lingerie will be bypass the Run for the Lilies
at Churchill Downs at 4 May, 2012, and instead E. Paul Robsham Stables owned Broadway’s Alibi will be the lone filly representing Todd Pletcher.
Bluegrass Hall’s Colonial Empress only a maiden is pointed toward the Kentucky Oaks for trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who is yet to win a race, as she finished fourth in the Martha Washington Stakes at Oaklawn Park at about a mile, third in the Grade 3 Honeybee
Stakes also at Oaklawn Park where she got stretched out in distance to 1 1/16 miles.
Her final race yielded her a fifth place finish in the Grade 2 Fair Grounds Oaks to winner, Believe You Can, at Fair Grounds Race Course going over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on 31 March, 2012.
So, two fillies are in for the Oaks and one is out.
Bred in Kentucky by E. Paul Robsham, Broadway’s Alibi is the daughter of Vindication, out of mare Broadway Gold by Seeking the Gold, and she is on a four race win streak, including a win in the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes at seven furlongs, and Grade 3 Comely
Stakes at 1 mile.
“She’s doing really well,” said Pletcher. “Everything she’s done this year has been perfect. She handled the mile stretch-out well. We brought her back here with the idea to let her tell us if she wanted to run in the Oaks or something more conservative.
She’s done everything so well, so we decided it was worth a shot.”
The Empire Maker filly, in Lingerie, who was pointed at the Kentucky Oaks will instead go for the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico race course on the dirt track.
“She’s a pretty lightly raced filly,” said Pletcher of the daughter of Empire Maker, who most recently posted a six-length victory in the March 24 Bourbonette Oaks (gr. III) at Turfway Park. “
