Question:

In Lord of the Flies, what makes the hunt in chapter 8 different from the previous hunts?

I am struggling with this question but I think it has to deal with the fact that they cut off the pig's head and place it on a stake and offer it to the beast, letting the idea of the best completely take control of their minds and making them more savage.

  1. in that chapter, it appears that they have become savage. the hunts before were mainly for food. now it's for the same reason however the sacrifice of the pig's head explains new tribal rituals they have obtained as well as beliefs. the sudden belief of the beast does transform the way they behave. hope that helped.

Lord of the Flies is a classic in that it is assigned reading in many schools, both high schools and colleges.   As a result there are numerous free on line resources that can help you with your study of this novel, most of which analyze the story, discuss themes and symbolism and other literary devices, and give character sketches.  If you do a search you will find many helpful resources.  Additionally hundreds of questions have been asked here on Y!A about LOTF so do a search for it in the Yahoo Answers search window and you will find lots of Q’s and A’s that should help you.
