If a doctor indicates "Dispense As Written" on the prescription, does the patient HAVE to get the brand name medicine or would it be permitted under LA law for the pharmacist to sub the medicine with a generic if the patient requests the generic instead?

  1. if the patrient requests the generic the pharmasist can go ahead and give the generic

its up to the pt to decide

but if it would of beent he other way around the pharmasist has to give the generic by law

  2. If the DAW box is checked, then the pharmacist cannot subsitute a generic.  You'll have to get brand.  You can talk with the pharmacist, and have him/her contact the physician.  The prescription can then be changed to allow for subsitution.
