When the text reads "Prowl (You may play this for its prowl cost if you dealt combat damage to a player this turn with a Goblin or Rogue.)

When Earwig Squad comes into play, if its prowl cost was paid, search target opponent's library for three cards and remove them from the game. Then that player shuffles his or her library. "

Does it mean that you could kill an opponents creature or do you have to take 1+ life from the player?

  1. You have to deal combat damage right to the player's life total not a creature. And, it has to be with a rouge or with a goblin. After you do that, then you can play earwig squad for its prowl cost and use its effect.

    -hope this helped

p.s.  If your interested rogue cards like earwig squad, and prickly boggart, etc. put me into your contacts and I can give you some great advice about mono black rogue decks and how to use them and make them.

  2. Dealing combat damage to a player means just that. You must actually successfully deal damage in the form of combat to a player. If you just deal damage to an opponents creature then you have not delt the player combat damage. Hope this helps!

  3. the prowl cost is referring to your second main pahses specificly. Lets say you attack your opponent with Prickly Boggart. Your opponent takes the damage, after all combat damage is delt play the prowl cost on Earwig Squad and the ability goes off. If you simply "hardcast" Earwig Squad  by paying the 5 mana, you have the 5/3 creature however you cannot use the ability. You can at any time kil the oponents creature as long as you have something to kill it with.

However if you tap Lightning Crafter and deal your opponent 3 damage, then you can play Earwig Squad since a Goblin is required for prowl in this case.
