In Mahjong, what is a dora?

've looked everywhere and I cant find the use of a dora. I know it gives you a bonus but is this to your han or to your points?

For Modern Japanese Rules:

Dora tiles are special tiles that can give you extra points. If you use one of the Dora tiles in your hand, it increases the value! 1 Han is added to your hand for each used Dora tile. Be careful! Dora tiles DO NOT count as minimum Hans required to win a hand.
