In Marquez vs Pacquiao, JMM's corner left a string in his eye for the last round. Isn't that illegal?

Isn't that the same as leaving a dressing in to stop the bleeding? I've never seen a cutman use a string. He put in the eye wound and took it out every round except the 12th.

It was a medicated string, to coagulate the blood. Not illegal to use. Not too many cut man use that strategy because it can be more dangerous to his fighter if it gets in his eye
