In NASCAR, who would be the best driver on a mile un-banked track if all cars were set up exactly the same?

The COT is almost a cookie cutter car; however there are some differences, i.e. engines (packages.)

Funding, or lack there of does effect the equipment in the cars (i.e. Robby Gordon as an independent--not too much funding)

If all cars were exact facsimiles (the same make, etc.) of each other that do you think would be the best cup driver on a mile un-banked track and why?

  1. Gordon. He's also good at Fontana which is like 14 degree turns. Even the flattest tracks have 11 or 12 degrees of banking.

  2. Kyle Busch -- he would "drift" it thru the corners

  3. I'd say Denny Hamlin or Jimmie Johnson.  They are great flat track drivers (Martinsville and Phoenix) and have a good feel for getting through corners that aren't banked very much.  They both understand the pricipal of slowing down to go fast.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  4. Denny Hamlin or Jeff Gordon.  Pretty much, you are asking who is the best at Loudon (New Hampshire).  It is 1 mile and FLAT.  Denny has the best Average finish (6.5) followed by Jeff (9.8).

    The rest of Loudon's stats:

  5. watch martinsville maybe

  6. Based on just cup drivers I would have to say Jeff Gordon using New Hampshire as a track model. http://www.nhms.com/speedway/winners/529... I've seen him drive the heck out of a car at small tracks even when his power steering was out. .

Jeff Burton can't be left out either.

Gordon was at one time very consistent at the short tracks. (before the COT)

  7. I would say Kurt Busch. He has always done well in the very short tracks.

  8. What you're talking about is basically IROC type racing. My pick for that type of race would be Smoke. He's done really well at places like Martinsville, Pheonix, Loudon and Indy in the past and has the experience to know when and where to make his move on such a track.

  9. Great question !

I'd think Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart. Robby Gordon would be there as well. ALL the open wheel guys, includes Dave Blaney that came from midgets & sprints would have the advantage.
