  1. yes as long as tere not trying to get ahead of were they belong

if you come out of the pits the 12car a lap or more down you can choose to drop further back than that

  2. No. They are not allowed. The longest line is all the cars that are on the lead lap. (normally). The lead lap cars are always on the outside on a 2- line restart. (the line beside the wall). If there are any cars one lap down or more, then they re start in the inside line. (the one closest to the infield)

  3. I'm assuming that you by longest line, you mean the line of cars that are all on the lead lap. However, the longest line is not always leap lap cars; many races, particularly at short tracks, have more cars 1 or more laps down that cars on the lead lap, particularly late in the race. All lapped cars start in the inside line on restarts (unless there are fewer than 10 laps remaining, at which time there is a single file restart with all cars lined up in their position relative to the lap count), with the first car a lap down at the front of the line (giving him an opportunity to "earn" his lap back by outracing the leaders), and the rest are lined up per their relative position to each other and the actual lap count.

To use your example, if a car that was only one lap down decided to start at the end of "the longest line", e.g., the line of cars on the lead lap, he would be doing himself a disservice by creating track position for himself that required him to pass other cars that are down more laps than he is, or putting himself further back from the leaders than he could be by starting in the inside lane.

    Hoppe this helps

  4. No, and Im not sure why you would choose to do so.

Drivers a lap or more down start from the inside line and the lead lap drivers will start from the outside. The logic is, that when they restart the outside line has an advantage because they will not have to slow down going into the turn because they have not yet gotten up to speed. This normally clears the first 3 or so outside line cars, but after that its anybodys guess. Going to the end of the longest line would essentially lose your track position assuming you arent already the last place car on the track

Also, if a driver is assessed a penalty during caution, they will start at the tail end of the longest line, so it is important for them to have all of the cars in their proper restart lines.
