The landlord is going through divorce and has failed after many requests to offer a way to make rent payments. Are we liable for back rent if there is no way to get the rent money to him?

  1. Sorry but you do not get the pleasure of living for free just because the owner is going through a divorce and has failed to produce a current address, you are well aware of your responsibility as such do not spend the rent monies

  2. You do not get to live there for free. You are liable for the rent for every month that you live there.

Can you not mail the payments to the landlord? At least of you mailed them via certified mail you would have proof of trying to make the payments. The payment would either be forwarded to the landlord's new address or be returned to you.
