I usually wait behind the line but today someone beeped their horn at me. I became really depressed, self-concious and I went home and cried because I wish I wasn't so stupid.

  1. Yes, one car at a time is allowed into the intersection to wait to proceed.

  2. NO..........the rules of the road state that you cannot pull into any intersection until it is clear to do so.......

  3. In most states, technically, you can never enter an intersection unless you can safely clear the intersection.  You can't pull out and wait for traffic to clear for a left turn and you can't follow the car in front of you straight through if it stops and leaves you in the intersection.

Having said that, in some situations, the only way you get through the intersection is to take every foot you can get and hope/expect to clear the intersection when oncoming traffic halts for the red.

If you got depressed when someone beeped behind you, save up your money for a psychiatrist for the noise when you drive into the intersection and are left on the wrong side of the crosswalk, blocking cross traffic from moving.
