In NY, what are the laws pertainning to teaching someone to drive?

I have a permit, but I was wondering if my friend would be able to teach me to drive legally. We're worried that it won't be covered under his insurance (Allstate), and that if something happens we'll have to pay to get his car fixed. And if not, the rates might go up. I know you do have to be 21 to teach someone to drive and he is, but whats the thing with insurance companies. Anyone know? Thanks.

I would assume that as long as the car you're learning with has a policy that would cover him if he were driving it, he should be able to use it to teach you.
