  1. Larboard. At sea. Left in the air .

  2. The old style boats (think Viking ships) had a steering oar on the right hand side and a liftable keel on the left. These were the steerboard and leeboard, which evolved in english to Starboard and Larboard. Larboard was dropped in favour of Port to avoid possible confusion. This was around the time tiller steering was replaced by wheel, and helm orders were also changed so "port helm" implied turning to the left, whereas previously when applied to a tiller it implies a right turn. The changes were made long before any practical means of flying so Aviation has always been port

  3. Larboard. It was changed mainly because it sounded too similar to starboard when ship to ship radios started to be used.

  4. Arr matey, was larboard. arrr.

  5. Larboard it is!

  6. I agree that Larboard was the nautical term but it was never used in an aeronautical situation.

  7. starboard was originaly steerboard because the rudder was on that side , because they couldnt come alongside in port without damaging the rudder portside was the only way they could berth. hence port and starboard.
